New Orleans 504 area code

I checked Wednesday night and the 504 area code was available, so I went to best buy bought a vonage box the next day. Thursday 02/02/06 504 is no longer available.

Anyone know what happened? When I called vonage I was told just to return it to best buy because they we have no idea when they will have the 504 area code.

I hope they get it soon.....

Is this common to have an area code disapear like that. I know New Orleans is a smaller city now, but come on?

Ya never know, FEMA and the state COULD have put a lock down on all of that, to support a rebuilding infrastructure. I don't know that for sure, but it wouldn't be suprising. I think I'll research that a bit.

I already have vonage for my home, however I was trying to get a vonage system for the non-profit lakeview civic improvement association (LCIA). We really do not want to have a Baton Rouge area code when we are trying to create a Come Back to New Orleans campaign.

It is well known that Vonage is supplying service in large numbers to the emergency services in this area.

In fact the President spoke to the heads of FEMA via Vonage.

I thought it might have had something to do with the tornado that hit the area Thursday morning around 3:30

In 7 months Lakeview was hit with 3 Hurricanes (Cindy, Katrina, Rita) one flood (17th street canal breach) and now a F2 tornado.

At least we got a whole generation of Natural Disasters over with in a short time, I hope......

That doesn't seem to work. At least it didn't for me! My area code was just picked up a few weeks ago. I had been waiting a year+ for it and checked every week. I never did get an e-mail saying it was available. My advice then is check for it frequently! You might be in luck, after a year with no progress in assuming new area codes, Vonage seems to have opened up a bunch in the last month.

I tried again last night after I returned the vonage box to best buy, and 504 was availiable. I signed up then and will just have the box shipped. I'm going to use the call forward feature until it arrives.

I just checked this morning and 504 is not availible again. Glad I was able to get it last night.
