Post subject: What I did to transfer # smoothly

I transfered my "copper" number without problem by using these steps.
1. I called my carrier to be sure they had a policy of releasing numbers. They did.
2. I signed up online (from a refer a friend link) with the special router to be mailed to me. Meanwhile,
3. When I got the confirmation email I immediately clicked the link to digitially sign the transfer form. Then I verified that the LOA was completed by logging into my account, it took a liitle while to refresh. But it was sent to my "copper" carrier the same day.
3. I continued to use my landline.
4. The Linksys
Vonage
adapter arrived, I installed it with one phone only and used it some. The friends I called reported that my cooper number appeared on Caller ID when I called them even though the cooper number had not yet transfered to
Vonage
.
I was still using my landline too.
5. After 8 business days from ordering, I called my cooper carrier to confirm that they had the LOAuth and were processing it. They confirmed that they were disconnecting/releasing the number in 2 more days.
6. The next day I got an email from
Vonage
saying that the transfer would happen on the next day (same as my cooper carrier said.) I was thrilled to see it working!
7. My land line went dead at about noon that next day. In about 2 hours my
Vonage
phone rang using the newly transfered number. During that 2 hours gap, callers got the telco msg "This line has been disconnected or is no longer in service..."
8. Then I got an email from
Vonage
confirming the transfer the next morning with some instructions that I did not have to follow to get the number working. (I did not have to reboot the Linksys).
Now, I have disconnected my cooper wires at the outside box and hooked the linksys up to the house wiring so all my jacks work just fine. My only slight problem is when i place a call I hear static during the ringing time - but one folks answer the call is clear. Initially I had much more static so I went online and follow some trouble shooting instructions that work wonders - lowering the "sound quaility" gauge to medium improved my quaililty immensely.
I am a happy customer.
I transfered with some hesitation because of the horror stories I had read elsewhere.
I have not had to speak to customer service rep at
Vonage
- only at my cooper carrier.
BTW - My carrier was Sprint.
I hope this helps you. My phone bill will be dropping from about $60 mo to about $30! I am thrilled about that!
