Post subject: Resetting Motorola VT1005V IP / How to??
I changed my mta's ip address to be assigned thinking it would clear up some issues. Now I am having trouble with just getting a dial tone. It flashes 4 green constantly. I do not remember the ip address I assigned it, and it does not respond to connecting through a browser when I try using the gateway address my computer sees. I have the mta connected directly to my cable modem and my pc to the mta. Is there a way to reset it to default settings where it can once again obtain the ip information automatically? Again I cannot connect to it via a web browser and all I get is the 4 flashing green "trying to authenticate with
Vonage
" lights.
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know there is no way to change the PC port's address. However, you might have turned off DHCP.
So the trick is to make sure you have connected to the PC port (not the WAN port) and set an arbitrary IP address on your PC that is on the same net. So the MTA should be at 192.168.102.1 so set your PC to 192.168.102.95 (for example) and a subnet of (255.255.255.0).
Then you should be able to connect to it. If not, then something else is wrong.

I can confirm this.
The 192.168.102.1 address is
always
active on the PC/LAN interface. Note that the web interface is
not
available from the WAN side.
Had a momentary panic when I turned off DHCP on the PC/LAN interface and realized that I had misconfigured the WAN side. Once I stopped and thought about it (Heaven thank IE's OFFLINE mode, I was able to find my error that way) -- I was able to connect and correct it.
As an aside --
Vonage
preconfigures the VT1000-series units with the username/password and
Vonage
server information, so they
really
won't be interested in people "reseting" them as you would a normal SOHO router like a Linksys or a Netgear.
