I have a Linksys WRTP54G I dont suppose there is a way to get the Caller ID information of an incoming call down to an application on my computer attached to the router, through the ethernet connection (without running a phone line down to a modem).
Seems a bit of a shame to have Voip and leave my computer completely out of the loop... |

only way I can possibly think of, aside from writing custom firmware and programs, would be to forward (or just receive) all calls to a softphone on your PC, that would display the number. Kind of non-feasible, but I don't think there's any other way... |

Sorry. That would require a connection to the SIP server to get that information. Vonage has that bit locked down pretty tight. Would be kinda neat, though.
Can modems monitor for Caller ID without answering the call? That would be interesting. |

I use a program called IDentify! You can download a trial version at http://www.imptec.com/ . If you want to keep using it, the cost is $10 or $15 for the full featured version which lets you configure what should be done with various types of calls. Example: ours transmits a message to "private" numbers telling them to call back with ID. "Out of Area" numbers are sent a 'busy signal' followed by a hangup. It has been a great asset in conjunction with Vonage. |

That sounds pretty keen, I had no idea this program existed...sounds like it would meet the needs of a lot of people who want features like that. |

I wrote a program that doesn't require the modem port, but I have no idea if it works on any other router than my own. I have a Linksys RT31P2. If you're interested in trying the program, please let me know, I'd be interested in knowing if it works with the rest of the world.
