When we call our cellphones from the Vonage line, the ID on the cell says it's 1-604-550-7000. Only we live in Medicine Hat, AB, area code 403, and I believe 604 is somewhere in BC ?
Reading through the old threads here, it seems like this problem should've been fixed long ago...
Otherwise it works great. Wife called her parents up north, but they didn't tell us if the ID was correct in their end...
The incoming caller ID seems to work fine though. |

Yep, I have experienced the same problem from time to time. Sometime, my outgoing CID reports as "unknown", once it reported the same number at Metalbunny (two days ago), and once I remember that it reported as 604-484-xxxx (I don't remember but not my number), and even 646-xxx-xxxx instead of my number. I would say that my outgoing CID reports properly about three quarters of the time (that I know about) and when it doesn't, it usually reports as "unknown". |

The reason is that the Vonage goes across the Internet through dozens of computers, and then "pops up" into the phone networks in specific points depending on where you're calling. The caller ID you then get in the other end is that of the "pop up" point, or some service connected to that (i.e. customer service centre, technical assistance).
It's because it doesn't carry over your callerID when it goes onto the oldfashioned phone lines. It should be technically possible to do it, but I think it's in the owners of the services Vonage uses to connect to the phone lines to do the actual change in their software. |
