i live in Alaska and was wondering when they would be adding Alaska area codes. Currently I am using a Seattle (206) area code for my home phone number.

Also, while my phone works great with calling numbers in Washington or the rest of the country, it stinks for calling numbers in Alaska. The call takes like 10 seconds to connect and start ringing. Also once the call is connected the other party will pick up by can't hear me for like 10 or 15 seconds. Then when they can finally hear it it very quiet on their end and on my end it is full of echo and static.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alaska does seem to present a problem. I have occasion to call a party in Kodiak now and then. It seldom works on the Vonage line. Either they don't hear it ring, high latency or one of us fades out. I have about given up and just use the cell phone. I kind of believe that it is more of an Internet connective problem then a Vonage problem. I have been told that Anchorage connects OK to Vonage.

It's probably a couple of factors, one being the internet connection out there on the tundra, also there may possibly be a device issue as well...let's see some numbers regarding your internet connection.

how do I check them? Using the Voip speed test?

I can do that tonight although I have a hard time beleiving its my internet. I'm in Anchorage and have 6mb down and 256 up speeds. I also game (although not while on the phone) and I have no ping issues to gaming servers all over the lower 48.

One thing I might add. I have no problems with incoming calls from Alaska, its only outgoing calls to Alaska

So do any of the Vonage techs on here have any idea when Vonage will have Alaska area codes available (907)?

Maybe a better question, are they any Vonage reps that frequent these boards?

Yes, but please remember: "www.vonage-forum.com is not an official Vonage® website & is independently operated."

To answer your other question, I do not think that they will know about 907, as several of the Customer Service Reps have commented in the past that they find out about new area codes at the same time that you do.
