Here is the gameplan for my business: I would have a Vonage number listed in the yellow page. It will simutanously ring at both of my offices in 2 different cities. One will have that Vonage number, the other does not.

Does this really work? They said that you can simuring 5 numbers in addition to the Vonage number that you activate the simuring.

As SBC has no plan to initiate remote call forwarding, this is the only affordable way of managing two remote offices without paying a bundle for their remote office plan.

Is it really true that you can also ring your home, cell phones, and any other network or phone numbers?

Oh yeah, it works! I have my Vonage # SimulRing'd to: my primary residence, vacation residence, cell phone, and on a separate Direct Inward Dial extension at work. So, ultimately, it's ringing in 3 different area codes (along with wherever I am with the Vonage adapter). I use my Vonage # as a "One Number" for people to get ahold of me when needed. People no longer need to call 5 (or more) different numbers to track me down now.

The only issue to keep an eye out for are voice mail/answering machines on the lines. If you have more than one answering machine/voice mail system connected, you're playing Russian roulette with which one will answer the call.

Thanks for the tip.... Of course, both my wife's Verizon and my Sprint cell phones jump straight to voicemails about 1 out of every 10 calls... Which can pose a problem if we simuring cells too much.

I guess it is the same network overload issue that Voip providers have too...

I'll have to remember to disable answering machines, or set them on long ring before pickup.

By the way, the routed phone will display the number of the line that had the simuring on it, and not the caller's original number, right?

Nope, the SimulRing'd phones show the actual incoming CallerID & name, NOT the Vonage #. I actually have no way of knowing if the person called my Vonage # or the forwarded #, which is preferable to me. There are some calls I'd rather not take. Smile Lol

That will also be a slight issue for SimulRing, depending on whether you consider it a "problem".

SimulRing will hand off the call to the FIRST phone number that "answers" the call. If your cell phone hands over immediately to voicemail, Vonage detects that as a line "answering" the call, and immediately hands that call over to that phone, and stops ringing all other lines including your Vonage line itself.

Voicemail messages, error messages, or the sound of your voice. It's all the same to Vonage. Someone on your SimulRing list has requested to get control of the call, and Vonage dumps it to the first line that seems interested. Wink

You could always simply not simulring to wireless numbers, and have one of your numbers no-answer transfer calls to a wireless number in the event that you don't answer. This might require a little longer ringing time but it will be more reliable.

short answer is: yes it works.

Long answer:

I had it ringing my phone adapter and my cell phone. But as many people pointed it out - my cell mxv took over. So I had it turned off. Not as easy as you might like, and it does require calling up your cell provider and asking really nicely. The lady I spoke to at T-mobile didn't even know if that was an option and had to ask her supervisor. Once she found out how to do it, it took about 2 minutes to get done. Now I can choose to pick it up on my cell phone and know that if I don't it'll go to my Vonage mxv.

So how do you get notified you have a mxv on Vonage you ask? Have fun with this one....I set up Vonage to email my work email address with the voicemail (since when I'm at home I have the flashing light on my phone to tell me I have mxv). So in order to get the message to my cell phone, I have my work email address send a canned text message to my cell phone saying I have a mxv.

Simple huh? Overall I think silmu-ring is pretty sweet. I rarely miss a call to my house now.

I only wish that Vonage would allow more than one e-mail address for the voicemail messages. I'd like to have Vonage text message my phone (via e-mail) when there's a new VM in and to still send a copy of the VM to my e-mail. It's not a huge issue to me, as I just check my VM if I missed a few calls.

As far as enabling/disabling voice mail, on my cell provider, *78 enables voice mail, *781 disables voice mail, nice & simple.

A bit off subject, but might help with the setup.....
Most cell's VM picks up after 4 rings. If you call your cell provider they can change that to 8-10 rings. I did it, but I told them that I was legaly deaf and that I needed the additional several rings to hear my phone ringing and they did it for me. Embarassed

An anoying problem with simulring is that if you set it up to lso ring your cell phone then if you are out and want to call home from your cell phone it will ring to your cell phones voice mail. The reason it doesn't come in as a second call to your cell is that the cell provider sees your cell phones caller ID being sent to your cell number (i.e. it thinks you are calling your own number to check your voice mail) that is why it answers right away. Vonage should update this feature so that if the caller id of the person who is trying to reach you matches a number in your simulring list then it should NOT try to call back that same number, just the others on the list. That would solve the problem of calling home from your cell. You could however, as others have mentioned, disable VM on your cell phone, but I'm not sure I want to do this because I usually give out my cell number for mostly work related people and I don't want to give them my home phone number. So if they try to reach me on my cell I won't have any voice mail from them. Of course I could still rely on the missed call list to call them back.
