Oh my.

Ok, Say I have 2 Vonage lynksys routers and 2 Vonage accounts and 2 Vonage phone numbers.

Now, say I have 1 Internet connection (DSL) in my house, and I have a guest house.

What solution can I home brew to do the following.

Vonage phone1 and WAP in house, connected to DSL
Vonage phone2 and WAP in guest house, so guesthouse is on its own phone line and still gets internet, and I don't have to run a new DSL line to the guest house and wire it etc etc.

It sounds like I am going to need 2 more wireless routers to bridge the two networks together, I just wasn't confident a Vonage router could be natted and still work the phone aspect.
thanks!

How far is the guest house from the main house? I assume the DSL connection is in the main? You can go 328 ft with CAT 5 to the guest house. Once it's wired, you'll always have a connection there, and not have to worry about wireless dropping out or whatever. Plus, if you ever sell, it would be a cool selling point to say you have it wired.

Question: Is the guest house wired for cable TV? You can do that too at the same time.

Guest house?! whoa!

Yes, if it's not too far, you can get a wireless router inside the chateau, and then put a wireless bridge in the servants's quarters, I mean, guest house, that wireless bridge would then feed the second Vonage router and any PC's out there. This can work very well, however, the main factor is going to be the distance and the quality of the wireless gear you get.

Although, if it's at all possible, I would just run some network cable out there. Just dig a trench past the rose garden and around the maid's garage and you'll be fine!

Lol

You could probably route it through the underground tunnels leading to the guest quarters wine cellar. I know it may be a solid rock grotto, just get a jack hammer. Lol

oh boy.... let's just say there may be a town road between the "guest house" and the house with DSL in it.

so just so I'm correct on this. As long as I can get a signal from the first house to the second house what I need for equipment is as follows:

First house:
DSL modem(hopefully FIOS soon)
Vonage router plugged to Modem
Wireless Router plugged to Vonage router

Second house:
Wirelss bridge pointed at the Router in first house
Vonage router plugged to bridge

And that will give me working Vonage phones in both houses and wireless internet in both houses?

Now lets say a friend is building(purchasing) a "guest house" on the estate(re:neighborhood) with line of sight to one of the existing properties. Could he be bridged the same way

Yes, that setup will work as long as the range is not too great. as far as adding a second bridge running off the same connection...I would be more worried about bandwidth issues, you had better have a nice upload speed to support all of those lines/PC's. I don't think there is a technical reason that you couldn't have more than one bridge...someone will be sure to correct me if I am wrong. What kind of distances are we talking about here?

You could always get a (gold plated, of course) microwave tower erected up on the hill and beam the signal directly to your gardener's cottage that way.

Oh no you didn't....Gasp, he went there!

I tell ya, as much as I poke fun, I'd LOVE to have my own tower! Might be a bit expensive with all the crap you need to have below it. Little things like power, a generator, and some kind of technology to prevent ANYONE but me using it. Very Happy

Silly rabbit! WISP is for grids!

Get a few like-minded neighbors, pool your resources to get a connection from an ISP that allows and even encourages connection sharing, like SpeakEasy, and set up a public grid. All the "hip" neighborhoods are doing it!
