Sorry if this has been covered. New to Vonage and this forum and I wasn't sure how to go about searching old posts for an answer.

Anyhow, got my Vonage RTP300 router today and i got everything hooked up and running OK. My set-up is

Cable modem-->Netgear FR114P-->Linksys RTP300

I'm using port-forwarding on the FR114P to get all the data that needs to get to the Linksys RTP300 through. But for a while I had considered (and tried) the option of just setting the Linksys RTP300 on the DMZ.

Is there any advantage using one method over the other. For example is it possible that even with port-forwarding working; could some other setting I've made on the FR114P effect the working of the Vonage.

TIA

You should not have to even forward ports. The RTP300 only requires that ports be OPEN, not forwarded. As long as the RTP300 can get out to the Internet on the laundry list of ports that Vonage supplies on their web site, you can just plug it in, and use it.

I have my WRTP54G (same as the RTP300, except the WRTP54G has wireless) sitting behind my WRT54G regular Linksys router, no ports forwarded, nothing special except high priority on QoS, and it works just fine. Takes firmware updates without problems, Customer Service can see it when I call, no problems whatsoever.

since the topic came up and I'm too lazy to post in a better forum, why was the google link in the bottom right removed? it kind of seems like search has gotten harder and harder to find as the forum has aged. of course there are a lot more 1+ year old threads that are available and have been replied to lately...

Hi Reebok,

That is a valid question that I should have addressed pro actively - sorry.

This site is going under some pretty massive backend rebuilds during the night time hours, I think I have a sticky about it. You might have noticed that the traffic has increased a bunch lately, but the site loads much faster also. More to come. We are real close to Identifying why the speed test works properly on uploads, but not on downloads.

Anyhow, work needed to be done on the sites sessions files. They are very important files, as they control your cookies (so the site knows what thread you have read, who you are...) Great care is need with this file during these night time upgrades or this site could get really hosed.

Modifications to the sessions file is temporarily causeing issues with the Googlebot that is sent to any page that the Google search tool is on.

We are only able to present the Google search tool on the page that it is currently on, because we have turned off the right hand block on that page (this is where the sessions data is pulled from, hence; no scrolling forums on that page).

This is all temporary and the search tool will be put back very shortly.

I hope that explains things Smile
