It will then pass those addresses on to my router in back but otherwise keep out of the way.
The router in back is then set to Dynamic IP also (so the RTP300 will assign it 192.168.15.100) and it will take the DNS IPs from the RTP300 and presumably set its gateway address to 192.168.15.1. |
Well, I can't attest to the RTP300's QoS quality. That was one of the reasons I replaced my WRTP54G with a "real" router and relegated the WRTP54G to Vonage duty only.
But, if you want to put your RTP300 out front to see if it is better than your other router at QoS / prioritization, then yes, you have it exactly right. "By George, I think he's got it!"
PS: Manuals are printed. Firmware comes out every couple of months, at the least, and frequently adds new options. Rule #1: RTFM. Rule #2: Much of the time you just spent reading the manual is wasted. But it gives you enough of a foundation so that it's less likely you'll muck something up.
As you might be able to tell, I'm in software development, though not for Vonage, Linksys, or CyberTAN, or in anything to do with routers. Dead Tree Editions (printed manuals) can't possibly keep up with the pace of changes. Your router will make minor changes every time it takes a new firmware load. With any luck, they'll make the on-screen help somewhat comprehensible, and you can use the manual to get an idea of where you need to go on the screens to learn the real deal. (grin) |
