Post subject: Cable modem recommendation?
Hi, non-techie newbie here. I can't get my
Vonage
telepphone adapter to work. I follow all the driections exactly and when the adaptor is powered up it hangs at the two blinks, obtaining IP address stage. Tech support says the problem may be my cable modem. My ISP is Comcast in Seattle, WA. The modem is RCA DCM215. If I need a new modem is there a recommendation for what plays best with the telephone adaptor? Fastest? Cost effective?
Thanks, Paul

Install this way:
Cable Modem -> DPA -> Computer. Make sure all your computer is getting
an IP address from the DPA.
You might need to do what is called MAC Spoofing or cloning.
Go to your DOS command(start/programs/accessories/ms prompt or command
prompt) enter in ipconfig /all. Write down your MAC Address for the
computer. Exit out of there. Log onto your MTA by entering in the
address bar of your browser 192.168.102.1 press enter. Go to advanced
configuration and where it says MAC Address Override type in that MAC
address. Save changes and reboot. Reboot the computer and see if that
will help. This fools the cable provider into thinking that the MTA is
your computer.
If that does not help, chances are your RCA DCM215 is not compatible
with our DPA. We do have issues with older version RCAs. You can swap
this modem with newer Motorola or Toshiba versions.

I have an Earthlink/TWC provided Toshiba PCX2500 here...no problems at all (I've had a surfboard provided by Adelphia in the past...great experiences there too)
