The Motorola MTA supports a REN value of 5. New phones use a REN value of 1 or less since the ringer is digital. If your phones exceed a REN value of 5 they will not ring. |

I suggest that you call Vonage. They might send you a new ATA. |

I called Vonage and after the usual 15 minutes wait on hold they offerd to cancel my service but not replace my ata, i guess they dont have a need for my old cisco. they said that the voltage they send is not enough to ring my new phone. i guess the bottom line is if youw want the sevice to really emlate the plain old telephone service you shouldnt switch. |

spoke with Vonage rep exchange would cost 99.95. looks like best bet would be to sign up as a new customer and port my old number to the new. or maybe even jump on with one of the may upstarts since Vonage is the only big player anymore. lots of new services are coming on board and most likely customer service would be a whole lot better. usually when a company upgrades, like Vonage did from cisco to motorola they usually provide customer with the upgrade to maintain compatabilty but Vonage sees it as a money maker. i asked them if they wanted me to go to 8x8 and they said let them know. |

New customer... setup the box yesterday.
Mediacom Cable to Motorola Modem to Linksys 802.11g router to the Vonage Motorola box to 12 year old Sony wireless phone.
Have dial tone. Can call out. But incoming calls do not ring on the Sony phone. If I pick up the phone, I am connected to the incoming call.
Time to replace the Sony? |
