I just got an email from Vonage today(an answer to why my message waiting tone is not working) that I should not forward ports on my Linksys router. Here is what they said:
"Thank you for contacting Vonage Technical Support. I apologize in the delay for response. We have recently done some improvements to our servers. These improvements should make it unnecessary to need port forwarding. It is possible that your port forwarding is causing the issue. Please disable port forwarding and reboot. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us."
Anyone else turn off port forwarding and working ok? I have 2 MTA's with 3 lines.
TIA |

I just received my adapter and tried different setups. The one I am going with (until I get an old PC to put a custom Smoothwall on w/QoS) is just as you said. I need my current firewall/router to work as before with forwarding enabled. Howeer, I did not enable any ports for the MTA to work. It did seem to take a little longer for the MTA to settle down than when it is connected to the cable modem directly, however, it works like a champ! Would love the QoS service, but can not use the MTA since it apparently does not handle ports forwaring well enough, nor does it handle the load I put through my connection.
