My setup is Surfboard 5120 ---> RTP300 ---> DLink 624 ---> PCs. The problem is that I can't access my employer's VPN unless I switch the order of the RTP300 and DLink router. And if I make the switch, my audio occasionally gets choppy because Vonage isn't getting priority bandwidth.

Is there any settings on the RTP300 that will enable me to leave it in front of the DLink router and also access the VPN? I think I've read in other threads that others have had similar problems, but I don't know if anyone has figured it out.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Might be an obvious thing...but when you have the Dlink behind the RTP300, did you configure your RTP300 to allow VPN passthrough? I believe it's under the security section.

Good suggestion, but yes I did. Didn't seem to do the trick.

What happens if you connect your PC direct to the RTP? Maybe the issue is the fact that your double NAT'd.

Not sure. But, I need to access the VPN through a wireless connection, and that requires the DLink router.

Enable the DMZ under Applications & Games/DMZ and put in the IP of the DLink router..

Thanks, BanditSC, I'll try that. Since under DHCP the RTP300 always assigns the DLink router a 192.168.15.100 IP address, is this the address I use for the DMZ?

If your DLink gets the .100 address then yes, you should should of course confirm that the DLink router gets the .100.

I had similar problems with a Netgear router (independent of any Vonage device). I was able to get the VPN to work by:

- assigning a static/reserved IP address for the notebook I was using to VPN from

- Forward ports 1723 and 47 to that IP

- Set the 'Respond to Ping on Internet Port' to true

Doing that got me past the point where the VPN connection was hanging on the 'Verify Password' step.

I have no idea if the Linksys/Vonage router would work with a similar config, but you might give it a try.

That would work. However, you may also want to consider telling the DLINK to use a fixed IP address that is inside the netmask of the RTP300 (eg. starts with 192.168.15.x) but is not inside the DHCP range that the RTP300 is likely to allocate (this depends on the "number of clients" setting in the RTP300 which probably defaults to about 50).

When I was using a WRTP54G (twin to the RTP300 with the addition of wireless) as my primary router, any devices that I needed fixed IP addresses for (devices that needed forwarded ports or DMZ) got 192.168.15.20x addresses, starting with 200 and going from there.

That way, if you have to restart your entire network, you don't have to worry about the wrong device ending up in the DMZ, which could be a disaster. Wink

So, I'd set your D-Link router to a hardcoded "Internet/WAN" IP address of 192.168.15.200, and put that IP address in the DMZ of the RTP300.
