[EDIT]
Complying with the forum request, I give you the following:
1. Cary, North Carolina (outside of Raleigh)
2. Earthlink via TimeWarner Cable
3. Downloand 4.83mbs, Upload 305k
4. SB5101
5. WRTP54G
6. Modem->Vonage Adapter->PC
7. Not Really Choppy Audio, read below
8. TestYourVOIP.com gives me a 4.3

BTW, I have tried all three Vonage bandwidth saver settings, hasn't fixed the problem.
[END EDIT]

I signed up for Vonage in October. I have Earthlink cable service through Time Warner Cable (effectively I have Road Runner, but I get earthlink e-mail and dial-up access).

Anyway. Ever since I set-up with Vonage, I have experienced problems. I wouldn't really consider it choppy... but in some calls, I would have a loss where I couldn't hear the caller and they couldn't hear me. It lasts about 10-20 seconds and then all is back to normal).

Well, at first I had an older Motorola Surfboard modem connecting to my Linksys WRT54G and Vonage's RTP300. I had a Panasonic 2.4gHz phone.

First I replaced the WRT54G and the RTP300 thinking it would be better to combine the devices into one and eliminate a possible point of failue. Now I have the WRTP54G.

Still had issues. Called TimeWarner, had them tech my line and it was fine. Called them back and actually forced them to re-run my modem line with a new wire and remove any splits. My cable modem line is a straight connection from the service box to my modem.

Still had issues. Replaced the modem with a brand new Motorola Surfboard SB5101.

Still had issues. Replaced the phone with a new Uniden 5.8gHz.

Still had issues. All of this time I have also been dealing with Vonage tech support. Resetting the router, changing this setting or that. Testing bandwidth, etc. Even moved from phone port 1 to port 2. Nothing.

In the last week I have had this call drop issue happen on 5 calls. One was an incoming call from my mother in Atlanta to me. One was an incoming local call when my fiance was taking a phone interview for a new job. Other three were outgoing local calls.

I am at my wits end. Tech support doesn't seem to suggest doing anything other than some weird power-cycle reboot thing... but because it doesn't always happen, there is now way to know if it has been fixed until it error again. And invariable it errors again.

I am never on the web, downloading, or doing anything when we have these errors, and otherwise have no internet errors or connectivity issues at all.

Anyone have any ideas? I can't believe Vonage just doesn't work right... but maybe it doesn't. I have ruled out the router, the modem, the internet connection, and the phone. The only thing left is Vonage.

the sticky doesn't ask for your testyourvoip.com mos score, it asks for detailed results. more often than not, that's the most important part, and the one that always gets overlooked.

reebok, you are correct. I missed the "detailed results button" although I did read it in the sticky. I ran the test again, received a score of 4.2, and here are the results.

Hi,

I've had the same problem since I signed up in March 2005. During the last few (3 or 4) months, it has been much more frequent. I usually notice it on any phone call over 15 minutes or so. I don't think it's the call length that matters necessarily, just that it's more likely to have an opportunity to happen or be noticed during a longer call.

I have zero problems with my internet connection when surfing, getting email, FTP'ing files, etc. I never notice a lost connection or any other problems.

I am not using the internet connection when the problem occurs. No downloading or browsing at that time (machine is usually in screen saver during these longer converations).

Problem happens regardless of which phone I am talking on in the house. The PAP2 is connected to the house wiring to allow all phones to use Vonage.

I have also tried the three bandwidth saver settings and it still happens no matter where I set it.

Here are the requested specs:

1. Wesley Chapel, FL
2. BrightHouse - RoadRunner, Cable
3. Rated: 5 mbps down, 384 kbps up
Actual: 4.83 mbps down, 376 kbps up)
4. Scientific Atlanta - Webstar cable modem Model DPC22100 series
5. PAP2 Linksys Vonage Adapter
6. PAP2->Netgear FS108 Switch->Network Everywhere (Linksys) NR041 Router. Modem plugs into NR041 router as well. Problem also existed with PAP2 plugged directly into router (no switch).
7. One-way audio -- I can hear other person, they stop hearing me for 5 seconds or longer. Sometimes it lasts beyond 30 seconds and we just terminate the call and use a cell phone instead..
