I've been noticing a recent issue where calls placed from my home (via Vonage) frequently, but not consistently, won't be answered by a voice mail system. This seems to happen with automated systems, as opposed to freestanding answering machines. Ringing will just stop, but the VM system does not pick up the call.

Has anyone else noticed this? is there something in the tones that Vonage sends out that are not properly detected by other VM systems?

I don't know of any problems with the tones, but the fact that it's happening with more sophisticated systems and not simple ones is suspicious. We've seen reports of calls being rejected by automated systems because the Vonage caller wasn't being identified by name on caller ID, and similar issues. You might want to ask a friend with caller ID how you come up on his CID display when you call.

I've noticed the same problem, and it seems to have begun with 1.00.60. I can no longer leave a VM at the office because of it.

Very interesting indeed. I just tried my office phone, and I couldn't leave a message either. But when I called the mail drop number, that machine answered and I was able to access my office voice mail. Very strange.

Caller ID seems to work OK. One thing I've noticed: If you call back immediately after a failed attempt to get VM, then it WILL pick up the next time. Anyone else notice this?

Same problem here. I can't leave VM when calling from home to work via Vonage. If I use my cellphone, I can leave a message.

depending on what device you have, you may be able to get the DTMF tones adjusted, usually setting this to in-band will alleviate those problems. I am not sure if the RTP300/WRTP54G devices have that setting, I know the rt31p2 and PAP2 have it...

I don't think it has anything to do with DTMF - I never get the the point where I'm asked to press a key. Instead, when calling from a Vonage line, the VM system at work just never answers - it just rings and rings until finally stopping and dropping the call. Calling the exact same number on my cell phone results in the VM system at work answering and allowing me to leave a message.
