I've been experiencing the same symptoms as others in this thread. Calling a friend's house who has Qwest DSL and voice mail from our Vonage line results in voice mail connecting after 12 rings. You can hear the change in ringing after the 5th ring (what their voice mail is set to) and the long time it takes to connect to their voice mail system. Calling our daughter's preschool results in dead air (disconnect) after 4 rings when it normally goes to voice mail.

ColdGin - let me know if you need a phone number to test to. These symptoms have been repeated several times.

I am experiencing the same issues. PAP2 adapter. I however am finding that old fashion machines are not picking up the call. Do we have a resolution yet? Cause my first experience with the CS center was -well- dreadful.

For the past 3 weeks or so, I have been experiencing the same problem as discussed in this forum. It took a week or so to realize the problem was at my end, not the other person's voice mail system. About 80% of my calls to someone that I know has voice mail ring many more times than normal, then result in dead air. Sometimes it will ring 6 times, sometimes 25--then dead air. About 10% of the time, voice mail picks up like it should. About another 10% of the time, someone answers. I'm also being told by my contacts that they were home at the time of my call and never heard the phone ring.

As if this problem weren't frustrating enough, I've called tech support about a dozen times in the last two weeks and keep going through the same fruitless troubleshooting. After about the fifth call I started being insistent about talking to a manager but keep getting template answers from the tech folks. Twice I was told I was being connected to a higher level tech, but the problem persists and there's no way to follow up with the higher support folks--I have to start all over. Just yesterday, which was about the 12th call, I found out no ticket had ever been written up! I am beyond frustrated and thinking seriously about cancelling this service altogether. There seems to be no such thing as a customer service department to voice complaints--only the tech support which keeps promising it will be fixed, to no avail.

My ticket number is #3863435. My Vonage device is a Linksys (Cisco) Router, model # RTP300, connected to a Motorola Comcast cable router, the SB5101. Any advice or insight is much appreciated!

Same problem here...just noticed it tonight.

RTP300 behind a WRT54G connected to a Motorola docsis modem - Rogers cable in Canada.

Called my and my wife's offices (corporate style automated systems) they both picked up as they should.

Called my dad's office (regular Bell voice mail), my wife's parents and a friend of ours...phone rings and rings and then nothing...dead air...

I haven't rebooted anything as it doesn't sound like that will solve it?

Has anyone determined if this a firmware issue or not?

Thanks!!

I have been having the same issue for months now.. I am using a PAP2 and have called tech support multiple times and blown off just like I am with all issues Vonage! Sometimes they will open a ticket but the upper level techs just close it with a nasty note back to the level 1 guys because they didn't follow their script etc..

I notice that once the voice mail system should have picked up and the line goes silent, if you flash hook the line 2 times (once to a dial tone, then back to where the voicemail greeting should be playing) you will all of a sudden be listening to the greeting.. So line goes dead, flash, flash, and you are in the voice mail where you should have been the whole time.. This doesn't always work for me but about 50% of the time.. This tells me that the other persons voice mail system is working just fine.. Of course Vonage just blames my comcast HSI, which has nothing to do with it!

Another issue that popped up on Monday, of course blown off again after five calls to Vonage.. ~50% of my incoming calls from POTS & Cell systems are very bad and sound like a bad cell call.. If I call them right back the call quality is great. It is only incoming calls from both land and cell lines... Ideas?? Again Vonage blames my Comcast HSI which is just fine! It is only on one of my lines, my other line (fax) seems fine as all of the faxes come in and wouldn't if the quality was this bad!

Customer Service seems to be looking at this, but slowly--so far they've replicated the problem and rolled back my firmware to 5.5, both with no results.

If you have this problem, please help by applying pressure to Vonage. Email them at service@vonage.com, and reference this forum thread and case #3793608 so they can know that this is not an isolated issue.

There is also another thread on this: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic11336.html

This problem seems to have cleared up for me. What experience are others having?

Still hit or miss for me. In addition, most outbound calls don't connect, and inbound calls routinely drop.

Vonage's idea of Customer Service is to make its Customers Guinea Pigs. Their response to this has been appallingly slow and inadequate. I'm dropping them as fast as I can get switched.

I guess I don't blame you. Still, I don't think we've addressed the issue of calls dropping, not connecting, and so forth. Why don't you start a new thread and post the standard stuff. Maybe we can clear some things up, or, if it's clear that Voip isn't going to work well with your ISP, then help you decide which way to jump next.
