Seen a few topics on this. Just need some quick help.

Setup:
1) No exisiting POTS service. Therefore, no NIU.
2) Onq 1x6 Telcom module in wiring closet
3) Line In has CAT5e, which goes nowhere at this time (i.e. not terminated at the other end)
4) The other CAT5e cabling goes to various rooms in the house (i.e. Study, kitchen, living room, etc...). All of the wiring following the Onq color code/guide.

Goal:
Want to be able to Vonage adapter (in the Study) to the Onq and be able to use any of the phone jacks in the house.

Simply tried connecting the Line 1 from Vonage to the Study RJ45 that is connected to the Onq. Did not work.

Is there something specific with the actual wiring needed at the Onq module?

Assuming that the Onq effectively ties all the jacks in the house together, what you tried should have worked. Some things to try:

1. Get a simple Y-splitter and plug it into the Vonage adapter. Plug one phone into the splitter. It should work. Now run a cable from the other port of the splitter to the RJ45 wall jack. The phone plugged into the splitter should still work. Does it? Do other jacks in the house work?

2. You need a voltmeter for this one. Leave the setup you had above, or remove the splitter and run a cord to the wall jack from the adapter. Go to the junction box and find the Cat5 from the jack that you plugged into. Measure the voltage across the blue/blue-white pair. It should be 40 to 50 volts. Is it?

you can also open up the jacks in your study and in the other rooms with phones to see if they all match up color wise to each other.

Thanks for the advice. I will try all of the above.

What should the wiring or color scheme be for the RJ45 jack in the study or other telephone locations. The ONQ module is color coded and that is how it is wired.

Should the RJ45 jacks be T568A or T568B?

If all you're trying to get working is a single line, then you're only concerned with the blue/blue-white pair, and the wiring is blue to pin 4 and blue-white to pin 5 for either T568A or T568B. T568A puts the orange/orange-white on pins 6 and 3, which is compatible with line 2 on an RJ11. I'd stick with T568A for that reason, though T568B would still give you a second line on pins 6 and 3. However, it would be the green pair, which is generally thought of as pair 3.

I found the issue. The line I was connecting was a fax line in the Study, which only had the green and green/white connected to the Onq. Obviously, this did not work.

Thanks for the hint on checking the wiring of the connectors.
