I was speaking with several Tech Support people and they have admitted that:

Canadian calls are routed to the US and thru Vonages servers before the call completes. This means that if someone in Vancouver calls someone in Toronto.. the call goes thru the States.

The actual data that is transfered during any vonage call is NOT encrypted. This means the George W. can.. and is probably listening in to any/all vonage calls.

Scary thought.....Eek

Jeesh, when will the paranoia end? If you have nothing to hide it shouldn't be a concern.

Well said - the routing of calls is of real concern to drug smugglers, money launderers and aspiring terrorists everywhere.

a regular phone line isn't encrypted either ... only difference is it doesn't circle around as much ... but depending on your provider your call may be bounced of a few satellites and go halfway around the planet just to reach your nextdoor neighbour ...

telephones aren't a secure media, it says that too somewhere in your service agreement. And although it's technically very easy to listen in on someone's phone calls, it's illegal unless you have a court order that says otherwise. CIA wants to be able to listen in on any conversation at whim, but sofar it's been turned down everytime they've proposed it the past 20 years...
