Post subject: Service Charges
I am very disappointed that
Vonage
wants to charge $39.99 service charge to turn on another line on the same account/router. Even a charge to get a virtual number. Why is it that current customers get the shaft? Will they waive these services charges?

Are you sure about these? Actually, the $39.99 refers to the disconnection fee--that is if you cancel
Vonage
service within one year of your activation date. If you're planning to add another line for
Vonage
, you'll be charge with $9.99 for that, okay? And as for the virtual numbers, it's $4.99 per month... Anyhow, if you have questions regarding fees and other charges, you could call up Customer Service so that you won't be mislead okay? Hope things will work out with you well.

Well, since I posted my original comment in
Vonage
Canada forum, I would expect that your response would show CANADIAN prices. Thanks anyhow.

xarisse was just trying to offer you some answers, they likely didn' realize they were in a CDN forum..
most companies charge fees for connection, not just phoen companies, but any utility.. but most phone and cable companies offer ways of getting around this activation fee..
Vonage
has some deals, if you go to Staples and buy your ATA you dont' pay activation, if you have a CDN Tire Credit card you dont' pay activation (see my post down the forum page).. you can get a free month of service in some cases and that could equal out the activation charge as well..
the monthly service itself is quite affordable, so that equals it out also..
if they gave it all for free, they would have to jack the monthly rates up.. as they get more popular, there will be more ways of avoiding these signup fee's, with more promotions from more companies.. I already see Vonage.ca ad's in more and more places..

My appologies, I should have been more clear. I am currently a
Vonage
Canada customer. I have an adapter already. I was looking at turning on another line within the same adapter. I went through the motions of adding another package and noticed the service charge. A service charge AND a month in advance. Try it yourself. I never completed the order of course due to the service charge. Does this sound right to you to do to an existing user? I wrote them and have NOT YET heard back. I wrote a while ago too. Guess they are selective in which emails they answer and which ones they delete.

yes, they are selective with their answering e-mails... you can try and e-mail
pr@vonage.ca
and speak to Patti (if she's still there) she
may
be able to help you out of the service charge, or if you call in and ask, they
might
be able to help you..
the same goes with other companies, I know Bell Mobility charges you a $35 acticvation charge to activate a second cell phone acct, Bell Canada does too for landlines..
I do think it's kinda a raw deal for existing customers, it should be maybe a half-charge or something, but if you call or email Patti, you might get somewhere with that..

Here is the response I finally got back from
Vonage
Canada....

With regards to your e-mail, if you would like to add an additional line, the rate plan fees will be reduced and it will be $14.99, instead of the regular fees of $19.99. Also, there will be a one time charge of $39.99 activation fees for adding the second line. All subsequent invoices will be for the two rate plan charges and applicable taxes only.
...forget about it!

Post subject: extra charges
Great name...I thought that I was being crafty.....I'm guessing that you live somewhere in Western Canadan, and are as disenchanted with Telus as I am.
At any rate... looking for some info re:
Vonage
and small business use. I have a company and have 2 offices. I am looking to switch, and it was my understanding that you can add additional lines at any time, with no additional activation charges.
Also, I am looking for info about keeping my old numbers. I have, in essence, 3 separate numbers and 2 separate fax numbers, which I am trying to keep. Unfortunately
Vonage
is only able to switch 2 numbers out the 3 phone numbers. My question is...Can I call forward from a Telus system to a
Vonage
system?
I am anxious to leave Telus...for good. I am currently spending in the range of $1200.00/month for service...rediculous!
Any pearls of wisdom that anyone can provide, would be much appreciated.
thanks.

I am indeed in the west. Deadmonton to be exact. I can't stand Telus with a passion and will not put another cent in their greedy pockets if I can help it. Thank God for
Vonage
and others like them.

I'd sure like to know about that. That's why I started this topic
.

My buddy has a store here in town and switched over to
Vonage
. Ported his numbers as well. Went without a hitch. He also runs the 2 lines off his Norstar system (easy enough anyhow). Curious, what line of business are you in and where are you located?

Nothing to say, just a deep cold shiver.
