Does anyone know the entire IP address range(s) that Vonage uses?
I ran tcpdump on my firewall and grabbed an IP address. I went to ARIN and did a whois on that and got a range of Vonage addresses. From there I locked down udp 10000-20000 to only allowing inbound from that range. However once I did that I could no longer get any incoming phone calls. I saw packets coming from other ranges of IPs registered to Vonage, but I don't know them all.
I couldn't find anything on Vonage's site or a brief search through Google, so I was wondering what inbound IP address ranges people here have opened on their firewall. Currently I have udp 10000-20000 open from any internet IP address allowed through the firewall to my RTP300, but for security reasons I'd like to nail it down to just Vonage registered IPs.
Seriously, if you have the RTP-300 facing out towards the Net, I can understand your security concerns. However, if you don't, or you have another device handling your primary firewall, I would disable the RTP-300's firewall. Vonage devices are great phone adapters, not great routers, IMHO.
And to answer your question, which will by no means be the only or even correct answer, I'm not sure Vonage want/allows their IP addresses to be widely known. After all, we can't see the secret areas of the devices, and the IP addresses of where the firmware comes from might be secretive. Vonage has good reason to hold back some information, since people would unwittingly introduce problems by "tinkering" with stuff.
Paranoid? Yes. I work in information security at a financial firm, and firewall administration is a big part of my job. My home LAN security requirements are a bit more strict than a typical user.
I was just hoping someone had already done the research so I don't have to pour through packet captures to nail it down. Lazy yes, but if someone already knew it, why duplicate the work.
