If these results are typical of your connection, I don't think you have a thing in the world to worry about.
The only thing that might happen is if you start using your connection heavily while on the phone - you might get choppy voice or the other end might. But that is standard for Voice over IP (VoIP) and you can get around that (assuming it ever becomes a problem) with QoS, or Quality of Service, that allows you to prioritize different services on your Internet connection so that nothing slows down your Vonage line.
But, a lot of people don't do heavy enough uploading or downloading to ever run into this issue.
Your baseline numbers are great, your ISP appears to support Voip very well. I'd say you are good to go. |

Your uplink packet discards are a bit high, but probably not high enough to cause you a problem. It would be interesting for you to run the Vonage speed test and see what your upload speed looks like.
There's not a whole lot that the average person has to do to optimize his system for Voip. If you're a power user, then consideration should be given to a good system router to run the show. If your upload speed is marginal, as I suspect, then you want to give priority to your Vonage adapter to maintain quality outbound. |

I think this is pretty typical of my connection. I have run this test at several different times throughout the day over the past week and these results are typical.
Also, I am averaging: ~850 Kbps upload ~5.0 Mbps download
I am looking forward to getting my phone up and running (hopefully without any problems)!! |

I was obviously wrong about your upload speed. Looks like you're in for a good experience. |

Anything I can do about my up packet discards??? On a few of tests I have run, that number has been as high as 1.3% and as low as 0.4%. Is the 1.3% anything to to worry about?
Is my up roundtrip latency OK as well? sometimes it has been as high as 165 |

These things vary and it's hard to pin them down. I am a bit concerned that those discards wander up in the marginal region, but they aren't so bad that I'm really expecting trouble. You can talk to your ISP and see what they can do, but it's hard to say what will come of that. |

165 is pretty darned good for roundtrip latency numbers. I get in the 250 range on a good day, and my Vonage experience is basically landline quality, with the slight delay (about 1/4 second or so) expected of Voip.
Your packet discards do range into the "marginal" range, but "marginal" means "would start slightly affecting voice quality". If those numbers got much worse, say around 2-3%, you'd start getting reports from fussy people on the other side that your voice has little quick "hiccups" in it, or that your voice sounds slightly tinny or distant. Anything below 2% is probably going to go completely unnoticed, unless it is burst latency (latency of large amounts of packets all at once), and then you'll get a brief loss of outbound audio very infrequently. Your results do not show any burst latency or loss.
Seriously, I think you're good. Really good. |
