recently i contacted customer care, who i had a 10 minute argument over the phone, where he was sure i could not use a different phone. I asked for the sip address etc. He said we do not give that information out. however another web site is:
When you sign up, and get an adapter and telephone number, THAT cannot be used for any SIP-related anything. He's right. It's locked down.
If you get a Softphone number, which is a different number than your primary one, that one CAN be used for SIP-related functions.
But not the primary number. Vonage has stated they MAY change this policy in the near future, but we haven't seen it yet. Search the VonageVoip forum here, and you'll see lots of things related to this.

All you need for softphone is your softphone number, and the special password which you will find on the Dashboard in the softphone config page.
