I don't carry any balances on credit cards, even ones I have with lower rates, because I can get a personal line of credit from a bank (or even some credit card companies like MBNA) with an interest rate several points lower.
If I can't pay my credit card bill in full (which is rare), I pay it with the line of credit. Even if the interest rate were the same, it would save me money because I avoid all the interest retroactive to the date of purchase; I just pay it from the day I pay the credit card bill. |

I was thinking of switching to Vonage and came accross this thread so looked around and sure enough, I had a 2 y.o. CDN Tire Options M/C that had never been activated so I called the # and once activated, followed the links and took advantage of this offer.
BTW, our interest rate is lower, something like 8.9% or something. I imagine they dropped it since we were paying our bill each month anyway. I presume this is NOT them doing you a favour but instead trying to seduce you into accumulating some debt on the card with the lower rate. |
