Post subject: I'm Cancelling my Vonage Service
After using
Vonage
for several months, I am going back to BellSouth. The reliability, in a word, ****. Whether it's voicemail down, no calls incoming for a day, garbled calls last night, this is still an immature technology in my mind. Customer-no-service takes days to get back to you. I work from home, and rely on consistent phone service, and
Vonage
is not that. I can recall maybe one time in the last *decade* that I had problems with a land-line. It's just not worth saving $25/month for this. Maybe I'll try again is 5 years...

Industry analysts believe that in five years, even your telephone company's service will be a
Voip
system so you won't need to wait that long.
A year ago hardly anybody knew what
Voip
was. Now it's quite common. A year is a long time in any computer-related field. Five years - that's an eternity.
To give you an example, five years ago DVD burners didn't yet exist. Now they cost $35.

Better get used to
Voip
, as the phone cos are already using it. If you sign up for Verizon's FIOS fiber optic internet service, they convert your over to
Voip
, often without even telling you! Learn all you can about
Voip
now, as I can tell you from first-hand experience, Verizon tech support makes Vonage's look like 1st class.

I just wish more people would truly investigate before making the leap to see if
Vonage
is right for them, with respect to their existing Internet connection. Especially a business that depends on their phone connectivity for revenue.

Well said!
I couldn't agree with you more. Also, I have had
Vonage
for a while now and I cannot remember ever having a problem where I could not use my phone. I suppose there have been some voicemail and/or caller ID issues. However, if they have hit me I have not even noticed. And, more importantly, my wife has not noticed.

I agree, but on the other hand, it's very hard to investigate voicemail problems where the call drops instead of going to voicemail, or incoming calls not ringing, or being unable to make outgoing calls, or the Dashboard being down for long periods with no way to unforward your phone, or any number of other problems people have reported. Yeah, a lot depends on the quality of your internet connection, but there are several issues that
Vonage
has had that are completely out of a customer's control. That being said, I'm still satisfied with my
Vonage
service, but I just get tired of the backlash on here when someone says they are cancelling their service for legitimate reasons.

I hear ya! My existence lately is devoted to making sure she has a working phone and laptop, and so far neither
Vonage
nor Linksys has let me down. When you have to have "scheduled maintenance" times for the network at home, that's kinda hilarious.

AMEN!!!!!
That said,
Vonage
has still been FAR more reliable than my landline service. I do believe the glitches
Vonage
has experienced are inexcusable, BUT, it's better than what I've had before (landline).
