I unscrewed the only wires in the box and then unplugged the jack in the box (no pun intended).
I came into the house, plugged my phone adapter -- the RT31P2 into the phone jack in this room and the phone system in another room. All phones worked great. Tested everything.
Then, I rebooted to insure everything is working fine. Since rebooting, I lost my regular router, (Netgear WGT634U) and the RT31P2. I tested both, lights come on but no internet or telephone connection. The only connection I now have is from Modem into this computer.
Did the wiring thing I tried fry my routers? Why does nothing suddenly work? I tried everything. |

Two words: curly fries no pun... pure goodness.... Unplug the phone line off the back of the RT31P2 and plug it into a phone. Can you hear a dial tone or if you blow into the phone can you "hear" it? If so, the connection to the telco is STILL there. But, if you unplugged the wires from the telco outside, and it was working before, you should be good. Even so, an issue with the RT31P2 shouldn't affect the Netgear. Netgears are notoriously problematic with reboots, especially on PPPoE connections. What was the procedure you followed for the "rebooting"? And, what Internet service do you have? You start with the "last thing" on the line and work your way to your broadband modem. It looks like your RT31P2 hooks to the NetGear WGT632U, so here's a general reboot procedure: Unplug all phone connections on RT31P2. Unplug the RT31P2. Unplug the Netgear WGT632U Unplug your broadband modem. Wait 5 minutes. Plug in the broadband modem. Wait for sync with the ISP to ensure connection is up. Plug in Netgear. Ensure it gets an IP from the modem and is connected. Can test with a PC and use the Netgear admin interface to check connectivity if needed Plug in RT31P2. Wait for Line 1 to go solid. Plug in a phone into back of Rt31P2. make a test call. Plug RT31P2 into house wiring. Plug phone into a house jack - make a test call. |
