I have a huge dilemma everyone. Hope someone can help me. Sad

Currently, my DSL provider's Earthlink under the 1.5Mbps plan. I'm using the modem that came with the dsl equipment. The modem's Zyxel Prestige 600 series and I'm using Netgear WGT624 as my router.

This is my current setup:
~Ethernet cable from modem connects to router
~Ethernet cable from router connects to pc(Dell Dimension 3000 PIV 2.8GHz)
~Ethernet cable from Vonage phone adapter connects to router

I'm quite confused at this point. Yesterday evening, my DSL service was down. So what I did was did what the user guide instructed me to do whenever the connection goes down: Do the usual shutting down of the modem and router and turning it back on. Well, that didn't help. So this morning, I got in touch with a technician from Earthlink that guided me to getting my connection back up. What I was instructed to do was to remove all the ethernet cables from all ports and just plug in the ethernet cable from my modem to my computer. Well, this worked out just fine and my connection was back on.

Now the problem:
I tried connecting everything back on(Netgear router and modem) and it works just fine, except for the Vonage phone adapter. Before going any further, the first thing I want to mention is my Netgear router. Before the service went down, there were only two flashing lights(meaning only two ethernet cables were plugged in), but now there's three.(vonage adapter, modem, pc) Previously, when my service was up, there were only two ethernet cables plugged into my router.

My question for you is, "was my setup done incorrectly this time that there's three cables plugged in instead of two?"
And I'm still stumped on my Vonage adapter being down.

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks all! Sad

Clearly, you should have the same number of cables as before. The modem should be plugged into the WAN (internet) port on your router. The Vonage adapter and the computer should be plugged into LAN ports (these may be labelled ethernet).

I don't think much of your ISP technician. He took the easy route for him, but left you holding the bag.

Thanks Steve48! I figured out that I plugged one of the ethernet cables incorrectly into the router, which was very stupid of me Brick wall

I found out the reason I couldn't connect was because I changed my password on my Earthlink account and forgot to change it on my router settings. Once I changed it when I logged into my router, my connection was back up again. Dancing

I wasted my time through tech support, but that's that. Thanks for the help Steve! Wink

Well, bad news, the connection went down again. My dsl's modem DSL light blinks 3 times every 8-10 secs, same symtoms as my previous post. I'm stumped at this point. I'm not even sure whether it's my router or the DSL service that's causing this. Brick wall

Sounds like your POTS line is bad or your just too far from the central office. I'm going through much of the same headache right now with Earthlink through SBC's horribly maintained lines.
