Hello folks. Having problems where I will be on a call and it will go dead from a few seconds to several minutes at a time, a few times an hour. This has happened since installation. I'm supposed to be doing sales calls from home, instead of driving to work, so it's mission critical for me.
I thought I might try eliminating my router and connecting the PAP2 to the modem. At least that would eliminate any internal issues with my equipment. But how? Do I have the DHCP enabled or disabled? Do I put in IP addresses into the adapter? I did try DHCP at disabled, and set the adapter IP address to 192.168.1.1 but I was really just guessing.
Just because I'm sure somebody will ask.. I have: A 3com homeconnect 3CR29223 circa around 2001 PAP2 with latest patch Linksys WRT54G Ver 5 with latest patch (2.4 GHZ) Adelphia cable internet.
If I can make this work and work from home successfully, I will be allowed to move to another part of the country and keep my job. So this is pretty much means keeping my job or not. |

I'm not sure that I understand. Since the PAP2 is not a router, you can't use it as a DHCP server, so enabling/disabling DHCP shouldn't be an issue.
As far as the IP addressing is concerned, look at the settings that are working in your router. If it's set up to accept its IP dynamically, then set up the PAP2 the same way. If it's set up with a static IP and/or PPPoE, set up the PAP2 that way.
Hopefully, everything is using automatic addressing. If so, you should be able to just unplug the PAP2 from your router, plug it into the modem in place of the router, and go. |

I suspect that your routetrs firewall is the cause of your problem. Disable your routers firewall and dmz. |

The PAP2 never worked plug and play. So I followed the Vonage instructions to set it to a specific IP address. Currently it's 192.168.1.111 with subnet of 255.255.255.0 and gateway of 192.168.1.1 to talk to the router. Just plugging it into the modem doesn't seem to make it work.
By disabling the firewall, I don't really see an on/off setting for the linksys. Would that be the same as unchecking "block anonymous nternet requests," "filter multicast," and "filter indent?" |

I wouldn't expect it to. That's a static address that lets it talk to your router, which won't be in the picture. Look at how your router is set up to talk to your modem, and set the PAP2 up that way. |

Well I set up a DMZ and QoS priorty which I did not see as options before in Linksys, and undid the firewall options.. and maybe it's just one lucky call, but I've been on for an hour with not so much as 1 or 2 second delay a few times. I'm crossing my fingers!!! |

I wanted to report back. Vonage has been working flawlessy since I opened up a DMZ and set priorities for the Vonage adapter port to high. I have the sound quality on high and it has not missed a single word. Been working from home since Monday.
Life is good... for now. |
