First of all, I'm not new to Vonage service. I have about 50 boxes in vacation properties I own. I recently ordered 5 new units and thought the wireless units would be cool. I ordered them. NONE of them work. The actual wireless router on the Linksys router works but the Vonage service doesn't work. When you pick up the phone a woman's voice comes on saying you might have plugged the phone into the wrong port. (That isn't the case with me).

I called Vonage and they are pretty much clueless to the problem. I figured I would post here before cancelling the service of all 5 on Monday because none of them work.

Has anyone experienced this problem or have a way to fix it? Thanks in Advance.

plug a computer into them, go to http://192.168.15.1 and check the firmware (top right) and Status page. see what it says for Line status. where did you get the devices from?

Hi Reebok,

Thanks for your reply. I tried what you said and it says


Firmware Version: 1.00.55


All 5 units don't work. I thought maybe it would be a firmwire issue and on one of them I had it plugged in all night and it still doesn't work.

I got all 5 directly from Vonage same as usual. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

ok, I know the firmware isn't the problem, I was just trying to ward off problems if/when your main issue was resolved. you didn't answer the most important question about line status. also, are any of the phone lights lit up on the devices? I assume you tried both phone ports.

Oops. Sorry. I didn't see that question. Also, I know it's not the line as I have another Vonage (non wireless router) that works fine and calls are crystal clear. It's just these wireless routers. I tried both phone line ports and no, there isn't any lights lit up for the phones plugged in. I tried using different phones so I know it's not the phone.

ok that explains why the phone light isn't lit up either. basically you don't have any phone numbers assigned to these devices. why, I don't know. are you sure you have 6+ phone numbers on your account? or did you just order these without ordering a phone number with them?

Hi John,

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer all of these questions. I'm sure if I'm having these problems than others are as well. As mentioned, I have at least 50 other Vonage accounts and have been happy with them. It was a real hassle on these last 5.

Yes, they were supposed to have phone numbers assigned to them. I even have the paper that came in each box that shows the account number and the phone number assigned to them. I called them and the representatives did not know anything. Oh well. I'll call them and see if they can help and I will report back.

John,

I called Vonage and gave them your information. They claimed that the MAC # was indeed assigned to my Line 1 but it wasn't working. I told them everything you said and then he did something on the other end and it started working. I'm not sure if they accidentally didn't have it assigned or if he did something else but it worked.

I called before last week and the guy couldn't fix it. He had me go into the same screen you had me go into but he couldn't fix the problem. He sounded exactly the same. These call centers must be in India. Anyway, thanks. I don't have the other 4 with me but I told him to do the same thing he did to make them work. Problem solved.
