PostPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2006 9:04 am    Post subject: Echo problem with people who call me - New User Reply with quote Back to top

I am having a problem with my new Vonage service. When people call me they here back their conversation with a very short delay. It is very confusing to say the least. It is the most severe when I am talking on a Panasonic KX-TG 2356, it is pretty much always there. On the other phones in my house it only happens if I speak loudly for a moment. I have talked to a Vonage rep and he confirmed problem, but couldn't offer a solution other than get a different phone. The problem occurs even if the phone is directly connected to my Vonage router, so house wiring is probably not the problem. It appears that the panasonic phone is more sensitive to sound than the other phones. I have turn the volume way down and the problem still occurs. There is also a annoying hiss that continues on from the Vonage side after the end of your sentence. I am very much impressed with the cost and functionally of Vonage and hope I can get these issues resolved or my family (spelled wife) will insists on switching back.

One more point. In the router under status voice there is a "Provisioning Status" which is Provisioning failed. I am not sure what this is.

I think you have the oldest firmware possible. go into the wrtp setup (192.168.15.1) and disable wireless. the device should then be able to update its firmware (1.00.5Cool. it was an early problem and once your firmware is updated you won't need to do this again to get more updates.

Reebok is absolutely right.

There were a LOT of complaints on this forum about the reserve echo issue (the person talking to you heard the echo but you didn't) on early firmware versions of the WRTP54G and RTP300.

Once the firmware is upgraded, this problem will go away. The current version is 1.00.58

I turned off the wireless. Do I need to get and install the new firmware or does it come automatically. Also I am assuming, possibly incorrectly, that the firmware version for the device is the one stated in the web setup page. Right? It would change if the firmware was updated to a new version, right? If not where would I go to verify the firmware?

Thank You for your Help.

automatically and right. you might be able to force it by unplugging it so it will re-register with the Vonage servers. the power light will blink for a little bit while it's being updated.

Jbidwell,

You should also be aware that the Panasonic KX-TG 2356 is a 2.4 GHz cordless. Using it in a system with a wireless router- also 2.4 GHz- is a recipe for trouble.

The trick of turning off wireless is only needed on these old firmware levels. Once you get updated, you shouldn't need to do this.

Now that wireless is off, unplug the router, count to 30, and plug it back in. If everything goes properly, you should start downloading the update in 5 minutes or so.

If this doesn't work, you may need to manually update the firmware. I needed to do this myself when I first got the WRTP54G. For some reason the automatic update didn't work with the original firmware. Read this thread for more info:

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic9581.html+firmware+made+fun

The thread has a link to the 1.00.55 firmware, which is only one version back from the current one. Once you have the 55 firmware, the router should automatically grab the 1.00.58 version.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

reebok and turbo53,

Follow up. I reset the router and it still showed a firmware of 1.00.18. I called support and they said that I showed a version of 1.00.58 but they said they would do another push of the upgrade. The router took the download and is now updated to 1.00.58. I wounder if they do a push and set your property with a value. The process probably failed and there is no way to verify, I don't know...

Thank you for your help.

Steve48,
Thanks for the heads up. I will keep the wireless disabled until I get all these bugs worked out.

Thanks All
