I've been trying to find the answer for this in the faq, and either I'm not looking in the right place - or the answer is not there.

Currently my LNP is suppost to take effect on Jan 23rd. I've been using the virtual number for people to call me on it to test it. I'm assuming once my number is ported that I lose that virtual number...is that correct? I would assume that people who either can't or don't port their number always get to keep their virtual number when the signed up...just wasn't sure if that number is taken away when you port.

Thanks in advance.

My LNP was completed on Jan 16th but the virtual number is still there.

That's cool.

Now when they say it's suppost to happend on Jan 23rd...how literal is that? Does that mean at midnight it goes over, or is it half way through the day?

I'm getting excited about this now!

My port completed on January 13, sometime during the morning hours. Vonage never notified me like their email said they would but no big deal. I just knew the date and called a few times during the morning to see which answering service picked up. I also still show I have the original virtual number. Not that I care, I don't have a need for it any longer.

It was the next night before SBC actually killed the dial tone on my old line.

I am very satisfied with the service itself so far.

Very cool. Do I still need to contact the long distance provider or does the Vonage number thing take of that as well?

Are you asking if you need to contact the LD carrier you had on your existing line? If so, I assume once your numer is ported over that relationship would terminate. But, I don't know that for sure. You might want to contact them just to be safe.

If you are asking if you need to contact your existing telephone service provider then the answer is no, Vonage takes care of this along with the transfer. I never contacted SBC myself.

virtual number is deleted after a week from the day the lnp was completed...

you should also terminate your LONG Distance not your LOCAL service...

when Vonage gives you a transfer date it may actually transfer any time during that day up until midnight.

you are advised that you can go ahead and cancel your Long Distance (DO NOT CANCEL LOCAL) service once you receive the Vonage equipment since you can use the Vonage long distance anyway.

The virtual number should be deleted from your account after 7 days. This gives you time to notify anyone that you may have given the virtual number to that it will no longer be in effect.
