Hello all,
New user here, and very happy with the service thus far. I'm in the process of getting my existing number transferred to the Vonage service, and have been assigned a temporary number. I have one telephone plugged into the Vonage phone adaptor, and another telephone still plugged into the phone line in my upstairs bedroom. The bedroom telephone rings when people dial my current number, and the Vonage phone rings when people dial the temporary number. I went into the Call Forwarding section, and chose to have my current number and my Vonage number ring simultaneously. But I've just tested it, and the Vonage phone phone doesn't ring, nor can I answer a call on it.
Help?! TIA, Cindy P |

Just hung up with tech support regarding my call forwarding question, and thought I would post a followup FYI. The tech says I cannot forward my land line phone to my Vonage virtual number because the transfer of my old number hasn't yet taken place, so it's not recognized within the Vonage system as a valid number. In other words, I can't edit anything about my land line number through Vonage, because it's not a Vonage phone number - YET. My only option is to call my current phone company and request that my phone number be forwarded to my temp. Vonage number.
BTW..... my hold time for tech support was 5 minutes, and the tech was very polite and helpful. I've been a Vonage customer for one month, and very satisfied with everything. |

OOPS! Forgot to mention: the tech did say that if another Vonage customer calls my land line number, it will ring on my Vonage virtual phone.
The bottom line is this: until the transfer takes place, either I'm stuck running upstairs to answer the land line phone (unless I can remember to bring the cordless downstairs!), or I give out my temp. Vonage number to everyone, further confusing matters! And when the transfer DOES take place, I'll be stuck running DOWNSTAIRS to answer the phone, since the land line phone won't work anymore.
But, this has been such a great service so far, I don't even mind these little adjustments. |

There is a lot of information in this form about getting Vonage to work on your House wall outlets. So dont kill your self running up and down. Recently there was a link to a Michigan Phone company site for this that went into a lot of detail.
Also look into a phone that has 2 handsets so you can locate one upstairs. |

This is exactly what I am looking into at the moment. However, I've read a few things here regarding the MHz of the phone and frequency of the router. Indeed, the first router I purchased was a Linksys Wireless G, and after several attempts to get it to work, tech support determined that there was too much interference because of my (2) 900MHz cordless phones.
I had all but given up on wireless networking, when Radio Shack suggested I try again with a different router. I bought the NetGearWGR614, and everything has worked perfectly since.
I'd like to buy a new phone with 2 handsets, but I sure don't want intereference troubles to start up again! Could anyone clear this up for me and/or offer a suggestion?
TIA, Cindy P |
