I have spoke with Vonage customer service 3 times today, and read their site, and still have gotten different answers. I am hoping someone here knows. I will try to explain this as easily as possible.

I reside in Saskatchewan, my Vonage line is an Edmonton, Alberta local number, since Vonage does not offer Saskatchewan area codes yet. So yes I do still have my regular landline with the phone company here as well, Sasktel.
I use my Vonage for most, if not all, my long distance calls. However sometimes my Vonage seems unstable. Hard to hear, lag, or whatever, so I am curious in this scenario:
I use my Vonage to call my mother *long distance* she answers, and the call is lagged or hard to hear... I hit flash #90 - dial my home landline and hang up Vonage, my homeline rings *and says in its caller id that my mom's # is calling, not my Vonage line I transferred the call from, I answer it and carry on the call with my mother. Who is paying the long distance now? She hears a ringing when this transfer takes place, so is she now paying the long distance charges, even though I am the one who initiated and then transferred the call with my Vonage line and she in fact did not call me? Or are these charges going towards my Vonage account *which is unlimited btw* letting her and I speak as long as we want, both of us charge free using our landlines?

I am surprised to here that you are able to Call Transfer when you ar eteh one who initiated the cal on your Vonage line, but hey, if it works, then good for you Smile I am not sure about the charges tho, in reality it should be just charged to your Vonage line.. what does your Vonage dashboard say? does it list the call being transfered or made at that time??

if yo ucan't figure it out, then make a few calls for a few mins each and wait till your mom gets her next bill..

you could get a virtual number in her area (assuming she's in a covered area) and just forward your Vonage calls to your home landline..
or even better, figure out why you are having call quality issues with Vonage in the first place.. are you in a remote area of SK, with a low speed broadband? do some Voip tests and see what your scores are, post them here, someone will be able to decode them for you..

The charges go to your Vonage line, it just shows that caller ID info so the person answering can know who they really will be talking to, and she hears the ringing to let her know that she is being transferred. All charges go to Vonage, which doesn't charge, so no charges.

I finally got a decent customer service rep, after 6 tries today. I won't go into why I despise the customer service reps in this country, for any sort of corporation. Not what this forum is about....

Anyways I was informed that YES you can transfer calls you initiate *I have done this and yeah it works* the guy I spoke to wasn't sure why it says on their help site that you cannot do it with outgoing calls, but was going to forward that to the engineers to have them look into that and have it removed off the page, as he's sure it's a typo.

I have no idea why my Vonage line ****.
I did that Voip test on the page here and got the following results:
Download 887,360 bps
Upload 798,824 bps
QOS 50%
RTT 137 ms
MaxPause 313 ms

said I can host upto 10 simultaneous calls. *cough cough B.S.* I can barely hold one. It lags or drops or statics out. Even when my pc's aren't currently online, so that will qualm any 'download/upload' questions. I have tried both a cordless and a regular phone with it, same result. My phone currently is a 5,8 ghz as it did make it better than the 2.4 could handle. Adapter is connected thru a router, however I have also tried straight cabling right to the adapter, skipping the router... same result. SO if anyone has any ideas, suggestions, anything to try out other than what I have already done, I am open to anything Smile

The only way you can pay long distance for a call is if you dial it.

Your mom didn't dial so no problem.

If you have the unlimited package with Vonage, you'll not pay either. If you have the 500-minute package, and you initiated the call to your mom, you'll use 2 minutes for every 1 (you're making two simultaneous calls, one to your mom and one to your Saskatoon/Regina/wherever line).

I'm in Regina and use Vonage and don't have any call quality issues by the way. I have a 647 (Toronto) #, but that is irrelevant. Smile
