Ok...I spoke with Vonage tech support who says they do not know what I am talking about, only after they heard the beep 1 minture later ((go figure)). I reconfigured not only the adapter (PAP2), Linksys wireless router and cable modem (Moto SB3100), The person on the other end hears a beep after the 1st minute of a call. Call can either be inbound or outbond to land line or cell or from land line/cell. We do not hear the beep on our end. I also adjusted all settings on bandwith up and down to no advantage. This happens with or without a PC on. Also, happens without the wireless router in the circuit!

Anybody else have this problem or is big brother listening in?!?!

First thing I'd do is try another phone, connected directly to the Vonage adapter. Make it the simplest, dumbest phone you can find. No cordless, no fancy features. The basic "trimline" phone is a nice test unit for this. Make sure the beep is not originating from your phone equipment somehow.

Yeah..say "bomb" and "jihad" once every phone call and I am sure they will begin listening to you Lol In fact because I put that in this post I sure my phone will be listened to now. Although I only call myself all the time and say "Hello? Hello? Testing! Testing 123! Hello!" Rolling Eyes

Does the beep sound like someone hit a button on the phone? If so, it's a DTMF tone. A lot of people have the problem and there have been many posts about the issue. I had it real bad when I had an RT31P2. Tech support swapped it for an RTP300 and they still exist, but not nearly as bad. All the techs will tell you they have no idea what you're talking about, but they do, it's a standard response. The problem is they can't fix it, no setting or tweak on your TA will help and changing phones will not help either.

Yeah, I get that too. I believe its certain higher pitched sounds (like a girls voice) that causes Vonage's phone system to think you pressed a phone button, thus sends that tone. Happens alot to me when I'm talking to my girlfriend over Vonage.

Thanks for all the feedback and humor. I tried a basic wired phone pluged directly into the PAP2 without the Linky and now it beeps at 1min mark and at 5 min mark. I hooked it all back up and still does the same. Go figure. Maybe they will figure it out someday!

FYI, other providers have this problem too. I told the people at the Canadian P provider that Vonage has this trouble, and they said, oh no, it's not the same, but it is. Smile It's an issue with Voip, not with Vonage or P* specifically. It has to do with how touch tones work on Voip systems, and that the system has to recreate them in order for them to work properly. If it thinks you used one and it's wrong, you get a spurious tone, like you're describing.

Hey all. Thanks, again for the info. I can deal with the beep since its $15mnth compared to $50 SBC was jacking me with. Vonage is good to what they have to work with and have not have had, knock on wood, an other real problems. I hope the damm government and FCC doesnt jack us a around in the future. And if so, i am sure we will have an other option at that time...I

GO Vonage and keep up the growing customer database....I already gave you 5 new customers!!!!
