Hello -
I have a question that I hope someone might be able to answer for me. I have Vonage set up to have my old phone number transferred. While it's in process I have my phone forwarded to the temporary Virtual Number from Vonage. This seems to be working great but I've noticed that the Activity Report on the Dashboard says that for every call incoming there is a minute used for both the main number and the virtual number. Example -
3/19/04 10:31 AM 19524XXXXXX 19524XXXXXX 1 min 177065107 3/19/04 10:31 AM 19524XXXXXX 19522XXXXXX 1 min 177065114
Is this correct?? If so, it almost makes it a priority to get the number transferred as quickly as possible or I have to unforward my phone and have 2 numbers until it is transferred.

This is similar to what SBC got into trouble for with the result being a class action suit. It was concerning their voice mail. The customer leaving the message was billed for the call on their bill. Then when the person with the Voice Mail called in to get said messege, they were billed for the call to retrive them. So in essence, SBC got paid twice for the call. Once from the person making it and once from the person retrieving it. They would no doubt say that both calls made use of their network.
If thier are 10 messages on VM then in effect SBC gets paid for 11 calls. With an answering machine or just picking up the calls as they came, they only get paid for 10 calls. It may not seem like much but with the millions of calls made to VM, it adds up. People check their VM many times daily. |

I actually looked a little closer in the dashboard at this. It seems the activity report shows that there were 2 calls for 1 minute. But if I look at my Billing summary, it shows that I only used 1 minute of my time allotted. So I guess the most important report is in fact correct.
