It's not illegal in NJ, and it's not called "overtime". It has some sort of legalese name for it, but it's usually included in the contract. My mom has to do it every year around Christmas time; she works at a very large watch company.

I don't know about New Jersey, but in California mandatory overtime is illegal.

Really? I lived in California my entire life and unless something has changed in the law in the past 8 years it wasn't illeagal to have employees work mandatory overtime. I have a buddy who is a plant manager, I'll ask him about that.

This statement from these employees worries me. What Vonage does not need is a bunch of new people coming in with no knowledge getting paid more then experienced people. If I were one of those folks I would be shall I say, reluctant to properly train them.

And to be quite honest it's been my experience that Vonage CSR is lacking as it is all ready. No offense made to the original poster. All I can state is my experience. I was transferred two times to the "eternal hold" area (the one with no music). I was given a different 800 number to call, with no explanation why. And then again there is the no response from emails.

I quite honestly get the best help from these boards and have learned a great deal here. I'm totally happy with my phone now, but customer service needs to improve.

Just like the CD that comes with your Vonage router is pretty much just for show (or coaster/emergency ashtray) so is email support. At any given time there are tens of thousands of emails waiting to be answered, and there is no staff dedicated strictly to emails.

I'm sorry about your trip to eternal hold area, I really don't know what thats about, or the 2 other 800 numbers they made you dial. Were you like super mean to the rep on the phone?

If I were you, and I posted regularly to a forum where employees of my phone company were known to frequent, one could try approaching one of them for help via PM possibly...

I'm trying to train the new hires the really important things like getting me coffee and stuff, LOL Lol

No, I was on my best behavior. I think the first call was to India, and the second call was when they gave me another 800 number but it had the same menu. Anyway, it turned out I didn't need their help.

The other time I called was about a credit request I made. The rep was polite but told me no credits issued until next billing. I asked her then if I stayed under my 500 minutes would I ever hear anything and she said no.

I admit I'm a bit picky, I've done CSR work in the past and I kind of know how to do it right.

Mandatory overtime in New Jersey is legal. It's only illegal if you are a health care professional.

This is what I have read.

I got an email from my buddy in California who is a plant manager in El Segundo. In regards to the OT in California as I suspected it is not illegal to demand mandatory overtime, but if you don't work it at his company it doesn't mean you will get fired, it's a write up. Too many write ups of course and your gone.
