I haven't had my number switched yet so I hooked up my ATA and started using my virtual number. The quality is outstanding BTW. I had to call Vonage and was on hold for about 25 min. The process we had to use to get things working was not anything close to the quick-start foldout. No big deal, it works like a charm now.

I called my friend and asked him what showed on his CID. He told me he saw the phone number I'm in the process of getting switched and not the temporary virtual one. I have two phones at my desk now. One on my fax machine which is still on the soon to be defunct land-line. The other is on the ATA. I called him from the phone connected to the ATA... How can this be?

Vonage "masks" your virtual number with your POTS number during the transfer period. This is their attempt at keeping the transfer as seamless as possible. It is so no one "on the outside" sees any difference in your service.
