PostPosted: Mon Jan 16, 2006 10:35 pm    Post subject: Adding Second Vonage Line, with only wireless internet Reply with quote Back to top

Please help! I have Vonage, and would like to expand it to 2 other lines. Problem is that I will need a second adapter, and the computer it needs to be placed on only has Wireless internet. Is there a wireless phone adapter or some way to make this happen? Any ideas would be very appreciated. Best Regards, Andy

Yes, you could get a wireless bridge and connect the adapter to it. You could also get a WiFi phone the UTStarcom F1000 for each additional line.

I am confused about your current setup. How is your first adapter connected? You should be able to chain adapters as necessary.

Hi Stephen, thanks for the reply. My setup is as follows: Cable Modem, to a Netgear Wireless Router, to the wired, Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter. This is a 2 line adapter, currently using 1 line. I have the real need to add 3 more lines due to having work needs here. So, no issue adding the second line to the PAP2. The issue is how to add the next 2 lines to that other computer that is tied to the Wireless network. Andy

Get a Vonage router and put it in place of the PAP2, then put the PAP2 on the new Vonage router.

You might actually do better if you put the Vonage router first, then put the PAP2 and the wireless router on the Vonage router.

Finally you could get a Vonage wireless router and just replace your current wireless router.

Have you got enough bandwidth to handle all of these calls?

Well, frankly one is a fax line, one is a home line that is rarely used, and two are business lines, one is used pretty often, and the other not often. But, we need the numbers like this, so we don't have much choice. I saw the Vonage Wireless Router from Linksys at Best Buy tonite, and that looked interesting. In the suggestion you made, I could replace my current wireless router with this one, no problem. That gives me two lines still at that one spot, which is what I have now. I need the access to the other two lines in a different room. The phone and fax line need to be upstairs, and that wireless router is downstairs. This is my dilema Smile

OK, as I see it you have three options.
  1. Run a network cable upstairs and connect an adapter for the phone and fax line.
  2. Run phone cables (or use existing wiring) to get two lines from the adapters to the office upstairs.
  3. Use a wireless bridge upstairs and connect an adapter for the phone and fax lines.
