Vonage at Circuit City

Has anyone bought their Vonage device at Circuity City? I did, thinking it would speed up getting started, but maybe not. I went to the special registration site for CC customers, but at the tail end, it says your order is being process and will ship, yada, yada, yada. So I guess I still can't use it until I get some sort of confimation and phone number and stuff. Also, CC purchasers are supposed to get the first 2 months free, except that wasn't reflected on the "order review" page, but maybe that will show up somewhere after confirmation or something. Also can't log in, get user name invalid message, but maybe it takes a while after registering for one to be "entered into the system." I guess I sound pretty dumb, which I am in this instance, but wondering if anyone else went the CC route and how long to be up and running?

I bought at Circuit City...had a little trouble with the MAC address of the Motorola unit not being recognized when I tried to register. After this was fixed (thanks Scott!) registration went smoothly.
I got the message about "your order will be processed"...it sounded like something was going to be shipped. As soon as I was done I plugged in the MTA and had dial tone within a MINUTE!
So...even if the online system says "will be processed" it probably has been already!

Okay. That's a relief, but still getting an "invalid user name" error message when I try to log in. No biggie I guess. So what about my phone number? I requested a new number, so will they email/snail mail that or what? And did you get your free month's service and/or rebate? Or is that just getting too personal? Thanks for your reply.

When you say you get an "invalid user name"...is this when you are trying to log into the Vonage site to access your account information?
When you did the online ordering, did you get all the way through to "review order summary" and click the "order now" button? The "review order summary" page has your user name on it...if you printed that, you should verify it.
Assuming you made it successfully through the ordering AND assuming that you can log on, your phone number will have been assigned and you can find it at the bottom of the "Account" screen. If no luck logging on...probably time for a call to the help line.
As far as the rebate...you're right...the ordering process isn't really clear about that...for right now, I'm assuming it will be good, and I just need to get my rebate forms, etc. from Circuit City mailed in.

Yes, I got all the way through order process, review order summary (which has my user name listed), and clicked on "order now." So I guess I should call Vonage? I've got knots in my stomach about this whole thing. I'm very technology challanged and maybe should stick with POTS! Thanks.

First of all...don't get knots in your stomach...its only telecom!
Secondly...I can tell you the end product is worth it!
Thirdly...everybody is a techno-feeb...I've got 26 years in data and telecom and you can't believe some of the silly things I've done.

It is probably time to call the customer support line...One thing if you want to try...you could try reapplying by starting over at www.vonage.com/circuitcity/

If you get past the second screen (where you put the MAC in) and it continues with registrationi screens, something may have happened to your original order

If your original order is in their database, the MAC screen should give you an "invalid" message.
