I have a broadband connection that I use with Vonage. My question is that can I use a dial up modem with that connection. I know I have broadband already. It is only for troubleshooting purposes only. I fix computers. Thanks.

It can be done if you have a good quality broadband connection but the speed will be slow and you might experience dropped connections. You may even have to cap your outgoing modem speeds which may cause connection problems with your clients.

I did a bit of searching and couldn't find anything, but I wonder if there are any services out there that allow you to use a modem over the Internet.

I do this occasionally and haven't experienced any issues with my current adapter. That said, I'm using a Linksys RTP300 Vonage terminal adapter. I usually will get 33-48kbit connects with this setup, never had any dropped calls. Latency is the major issue here, also you'll need to be able to run your Vonage adapter at its highest sound quality or it won't work.

I did have an RT31P2 and WASN'T able to succesfully connect to dial-up systems with it.

I can hear the modem dial out and hear the handshake sound(the annoying modem noises), and it goes on longer then it should and gives me error 678 "The remote computer didn't respond". How can I tell if this is Vonage or the problem I am supposed to be fixing?

You can try calling customer service and have them adjust packet sizes. You can tell them what you are doing or just tell them you are trying to fax on the line.

You may also want to disable v.90 on your modem. There are some init strings a this 56k Modem Troubleshooting page. This will slow down your modem and prevent it from initially attempting a 56k connection.

All I can't call customer service. My Vonage experience has been really terrible. The first router I got disconntected me from the internet randomly. Customer couldn't help me worth diddly. I suggest a new router, and that solved that problem. Now my phone drops calls quite frequently. I am so nervous to use the phone now due to it's lack of reliability. I wouldn't recommend Vonage service to my worst enemy. It's kinda sad when I can stay on the phone long enough to get through to customer service. I wish I knew what to do. I guess what for digital phone from time warner.

Maybe you should ask for help here? You never posted anything relating to "Now my phone drops calls quite frequently." I'm sure there is someone here who can help you, that is, if you want help. Just post your details and let's get it fixed.

I apologize for coming off having a bad attitude. I just can't accept how many problems I have been having. What happens is that the phone randomly drops the calls. It range from 10secs to over 30mins. I will be in the middle of talking with someone and then nothing. I got a LAN set up with two computers connected to the router. The router's model is RT31P2. As before I suspect it is hardware failure once again. I would like to try to get another, but the last customer service rep. promised to send a postage sticker, but never did. Please let me know what more information is needed to began a troubeshooting process.

For example a buddy just called me. It cuts out 13secs. into the call. I call him back and 5 seconds later AGAIN! So frustrating.
