Im using Motorola Canopy. This system adds a 30 - 40 ms of latency to the transmission. Does Vonage use a codec that can stand this much without compromising the QOS and how do I change it. |

Based on other implementations, I believe this setup should work for you; | Just the Sound of Your Voice wrote: | | There are phone banks in Kuwait, but for troops stationed in remote areas or on the front lines the nearest secure telephone call may be 200 miles away. Now, a cadre of U.S. corporations is pitching in to address the problem. Led by SkyFrames Inc., Vonage and Motorola's Canopy™ division, the Freedom Calls Foundation [see sidebar] is providing modern communications equipment to the troops. The solution is a convergence of satellite, wireless, and Voip equipment and services that allows even troops on the front lines to hear the voices of family members for free. |

What does this have to do with QOS over wireless? |

I have been running 2 lines of Vonage over Canopy for several years with no issues.
Are you sure the Canopy system is adding that much delay ? I just pinged my providers border router at ~20mS, which is typical. Last time I checked, I was ~250mS away from Vonages routers - that's on the other end of my Canopy subscriber link, at least 2 Canopy backhaul hops and the fiber network at the ISP. That means the Canopy wireless equipment is only adding ~10% or less to the total delay. |

I talked to Canopy tech support and a friend talked to 3rd level Vonage support and both said the same thing. Canopy and any other wireless adds 30 - 40 ms of latency. Are you sure thats what you are getting when you ping your ISP's edge router? |

...just tried it again by pinging the ISP's mailserver, which is located in the same building as their fiber drop.
14-18 mS ping times
That's with >50 sector users on my Canopy node and at least 2 hops of backhaul added to my subscriber hop. |
