I just ported my number from SBC to Vonage. My Caller ID Name nows says 'Illinois Caller'. The friend I called to check with did not pick up the call until he heard me leaving him a message. He said 'Illinois Caller' is usually a solicitor. |

Here's a curious complication to this. Prior to the completion of my LNP (from SBC Michigan to Vonage), calls made from my Vonage line (made over the temporary virtual number they give you while the LNP is in process) correctly displayed my name and phone number (the yet-to-be-ported number). AFTER the LNP was completed, this stopped and now I'm having the same issue as everyone else -- outgoing CID alternately displaying "unknown" or "Vonage Holdings".
Can someone please explain this to me? Has anyone tried that gentlemen's suggestion regarding calling Vonage and having them reassign the "CNAM"?
Thanks. |

it's not curious or a complication, it's typical. it usually stays a few days after the lnp too, so it's more like you got the short stick if anything. Vonage isn't going to update anything. that's the whole reason this is such an issue. if they would change it, this thread wouldn't exist. |

I concur. I did call in, Vonage rep was polite but insisted Vonage does not send Caller ID Name just the CallerID number. I suspect this is true. CallerID Name is probably being substituted with ' Illinois Caller', Out of Area', 'Vonage Holdings' , etc. based on terminating phone companies rules based on the CallerID number. I would suggest we all call in requesting an improvement ticket be generated for Vonage to provide CallerID Name with CallerID number, explaining that Called Party will not answer the call because they will suspect the call to be a solicitor. That is what I did. |
