It would appear that your Vonage number isn't in the local calling area from where you are calling it.

If you're on a mobile phone when calling, you could be on a tower outside your calling area, even if you're within your calling area.

If you're on a landline or another Voip phone, you may not have gotten a Vonage number that's local to where you live.

One other possibility: try dialling the area code before the number (if you haven't already). If the exchange is new to your area code, this can sometimes make the call go through. I have that issue with a mobile phone I just got here.

I don't remember if ET ever used a 1 or not to phone home.

You guys are something else....

Anyway, Vonage said it was because I am using a virtual number until mine is ported. I was calling locally to my house and it was a toll call.

when my number was ported I did not have to dial1 when dialing the virtual number. Sounds like a POTS routing problem. Maybe your local phone Co doesnt know the exchange.

Do you have to dial1 or 1 + AC and is virtual number IN same AC and in same calling area.

Yes it is in the same AC...but with SBC or any service you sometimes have to dial a 1 in the same AC depending on where it is. So maybe it is just my virtual number that is jacked up. Hopefully when my number is ported the 1 wont be needed.

Sounds like your virtual# is assigned to a toll area unlike your# you are trying to port even though they are in the same AC but maybe 50 miles apart.

that is what i thought, but when i saw the 1 in front of my number online it made me wonder...plus when people call the caller ID has a 1 in front of their number too
