Can't personally vouch for HellSouth, but my Verizon DSL connection's been solid and far more reliable than the RoadRunner connection I used to have, faster, and cheaper. I have a 3M/1M connection and it usually outperforms that by a little bit. |

I just got a call this morning from a customer who had charter cable and her speedtests, from multiple test sites, were a mindblowing 300kbps down and about 90kbps up. Needless to say, her audio was horrible. I had her call her ISP and Charter said essentially, "Lady, we give out the same bandwidth to all our customers. Your connection is fine, we know all the numbers, now run along and go call Vonage."
Which is exactly what she did. Charter has just knocked TWC off the top of my Evil ISP list. |

What does that mean? What is a "content provider" in this context?
Anyway, I installed my 6.0 Mbps BellSouth DSL today and everything seems to be working fine. I'm going to give it a few days to test and then call to cancel the Charter cable modem. I can't wait to tell them that I am now getting twice the speed for the same price. I'll tell them that if they go to 8.0 or 10.0, I would probably swtich back in the future. |

The first test one should do before calling your ISP is that "Is your internet working just fine without the Vonage router hooked up?" If you are getting 300mbps - 100 mbps, it will be obvious that your "high speed" connection will be very slooooow just by itself. The call to your ISP should be "hey, my connection is very slow, come and fix my cable line" or whatever. Why do you even need to mention Vonage?? With all the fights between ISPs and Voip providers going on right now. I think people should use their head a little when they encounter Voip phone problems. If your cable modem works perfectly before, it's almost not your cable modem problem, unless your cable provider is blocking it. At this time I know none of the major cable ISPs are blocking Vonage. |
