Perhaps you should seek some venture capital and start your own Voip service. Do everything for yourself and your customers that, in your opinion, would in no way hurt Vonage to do.

I completely do not understand that point of view. If you don't like the way Vonage does business, then I can see not doing business with them. But first you talk of court cases, and now you say you'd take pleasure in their demise?

Well, I guess your question has been answered - Vonage does not allow manual provisioning because they have made a business decision to do so. The reason for that business decision is either security or simplicity or a combination of both, but regardless - since Vonage is a private company the reasoning behind their business decisions is none of our business, even as customers. They may disclose what they choose.

There's no law that says they have to sell you unlocked equipment or allow same to be used on their network. Vonage is not a regulated monopoly. They are a private competitive company. Their regulation is the free market - if their decisions end up being harmful ones, the market will punish them. 1,000,000 lines and growing say their decision is not an exceptionally bad one.

All their devices are locked to them, and you are welcome to purchase one and unlock it and use it with another SIP provider that welcomes unlocked devices, but it will not be useable on the Vonage network any more. Eventually, I may do that with my WRTP54G, but so far Vonage hasn't done too badly by me.

So what's the beef? If other providers have decent prices and their policies suit you better, why don't you just go to one of them and be done with it?
