I know this sounds strange, however, I would like some info regarding Vonage members and telemarketing calls. I independently test telemarketing companies regarding their Do Not Call procedures. As such, it behooves me to receive as many phone calls from these entities as possible. I would like to have your input if your virtual phone numbers receive telemarketing calls. I'm thinking of installing 20 or 30 virtual phone numbers, and before doing so, would like some insider info from Vonage members. Ironic but true; I want all those annoying phone calls. Can you all help me with this strange but very important request? I thank you for your time.

Order Viagra from any of the thousands of online pharmacies. They require your phone number for an online "appointment".

In about a week, your phone number will have been sold to hundreds of off-shore calling centers.

Your phone will not stop ringing.

One of the easiest ways to get those calls is to fill out sweepstakes forms. You will find them in car give-a-ways at the mall and in drop boxes at smaller hole-in-the-wall restaurants.

A lot of smaller home improvement companies do telemarketing on their own. They don't have the knowlege/resources to clean their phone lists against the DNC list.

However, both the Viagra and the sweepstakes methods establish business relationships in such a way as to specifically end run the Do Not Call list.

The problem with using Vonage numbers for measuring DNC compliance is that Vonage numbers are for all intents and purposes unlisted numbers. Unless a number has been ported from a local phone company it will not appear in a directory. That means that completely unsolicited calls will only come from random dialing.

When I was using a Vonage assigned virtual number I got no telemarketer calls on that line.

Vonage issued me my phone number. Since it was issued, in July, I have not received a SINGLE telemarketing call. Not a one.

So if you are looking for a company that sells your number, Vonage may not be for you. You'll have to "compromise" your number yourself, they won't do it for you. (grin)

I'll throw mine out there too. Never have a gotten a telemarketing call on my Vonage line, unless it was something related to a service I had, i.e. COMCAST (my ISP) called me to get me to switch to their digital voice svc.

0 telemarketing calls on my Vonage line as well, but it was a Cingular wireless number that was ported to Vonage. Many call-up services (including Cingular's own system) still seem to think it's a cell #, which is fine by me. Sure beats the 10-12 calls/day I was getting on the Verizon line pre DNC list.
