Hey all.

I just signed up for Vonage a few weeks ago. Simple process, all online, great since I didn't feel like talking to someone to set it up.

Phone makes calls perfectly. Was on the phone for an hour with my bank for example ...

Problem is when I call my number from any phone, I get a sound like a modem/fax machine attempting to establish a connection. Has been happening for a week. I set it up last saturday.

My broadband router has been setup with forwarding for all the ports as described in the manual, and is using dhcp from my dhcp server. I've assigned it a reservation so it won't change. Firmware is up to date. If I call the phone when the device is off the network, it rings busy. Also tried hooking directly up to my cablemodem device and same happens.

Any ideas? Much appreciation in advance!!

are you porting your number? are you using 10, 11 or 7 digit dialing?

one question down, one to go.
also, what Vonage device do you have? if it's anyhting besides a pap2 or mta, go to the web interface at http://192.168.15.1 Status tab and see what it says for line1 and line2 status. particularly what number is provisioned to make sure you know what number it's actually using.

I never did state what type of device ...
it is a linksys pap2. When I set it up I noticed it didn't have a web interface.

When I plug the phone into line 2, I get the automated message immediately that the phone is plugged into the wrong port.

I think the problem may be with routing the calls to your number on the POTS network.

You need two tests. First have a Vonage user call you (eliminates the POTS network) second have someone call you from a non-local source, this would eliminate or indicate the phone company you have been using to call your Vonage line from. You would then know more about whom to contact to get the problem resolved.

If you would like me to help you, PM me your number and some good times to call (I am in EST). I can call you from my Vonage line and from my cell and see what happens.

You've tacked this on to the end of an unrelated thread, so you probably won't get much response. Start a new thread and include the information listed here.

I assume that the CS techs had you re-boot your system several times. If they didn't, try that first.
