I have the WRTP54G. I have it connected to a USR8054 wireless router. Everything works better than great! Now I would now like to unhook the cable and connect to it via wireless only, so that I can put my phone anywhere in the house, tethered only by the power supply.
I tried every which way I could think of, after searching and reading numerous threads here and there. The WRTP54G doesnt seem to have an wireless AP mode. Have I identified the correct limitation? If not, can this be done somehow?
Thanks |

If I understand correctly, you want to make the WRTP54G a wireless client to your URS8054. Not sure if you can do this, but there is more than one way to skin a cat.
What you are really trying to accomplish is to put the phone anywhere in the house. You can do this by wiring the WRTP54G to your internal phone wiring. See this link for detailed instructions.

Another option is to connect a base station for a wireless phone to the WRTP54G. Then you can take the phone itself anywhere in the house. |

The WRTP54G does not have an AP mode in its wireless, and you can't load firmware that allows it because Vonage does not allow third party firmware.
You could get a router that does have AP mode, or a wireless-to-RJ45 converter, and hook it up to the WRTP54G, but the suggestions that have already been made are cheaper and more sensible ones. |

Thanks for your replies. You confirmed that the router doesn't have an AP mode and that's what is missing... and that a cordless phone is the easiest way to go. |
