Okay so... I'm not new to the forums. I'm not new to Vonage either, I was an employee of theirs for most of this past year.
Then Iraq refused to stop being so NEEDY. My plane leaves in a few hours for Kuwait.
So my cheap $9.99 Radio Shack phone and Linksys PAP2 Vonage Phone adapter (I likes 'em small) are in a dufflebag. I want to know what my options are for getting my OWN Internet Service Provider via satellite over there. I would take more time to research the forums and see exactly what people have used, and how well it worked, but like I said- the plane leaves in a few hours.
Every Satellite ISP I check out involves a little "Do you live and plan to use our service in the continental United States?" checkbox which is a deal breaker. I would just ignore this, figuring that like Vonage that's just a "Ahh to heck with you if you take it overseas and fry your box by plugging it into a oil well instead of a wall outlet" clause but I think it may have something more to do with satellite positioning... and stuff.
So the short question is: Which ISP should I use when I get to Iraq?
Thank you for your input in advance.

First tix3on:

Good luck to you Smile

Second and short:

From what I understand, you will be able to use the service via the military connection they provide for you. I often see the IP's here on the forum (i.e.: army.iraq.unit.mil)

Please post when you are settled and have access.

Regards;

I won't share here my opinion of our government's strategy nor decision to engage in that effort over there, I just hope that the originator of this thread stays safe. That being said, and I know this is after the fact, but, instead of his bring a Vonage adaptor and a cordless phone with him to stay in touch with home, I think it would have made more sense to have brought a Wi-Fi phone and a small wireless router. That way, he might be able to use whatever hot spot connection he might come across, and the Wi Fi Vonage phone and a small Wi-Fi router would take up less space than a voange adapter and a wireless phone.
