Post subject: Help a Newbie Understand Fax Set Up
Please help me understand something. I've been reading through this thread and I see that it is somehow possible to fax through your computers modem. I haven't read every thread so I apologize if this has been explained many times.
I don't see how this is possible. The modem has a regular phone line connection. I'm hooked up through a wireless router using a V-tech phone base. An ethernet cable plugs into the V-tech base to the router.
The only way I can see this working is if there is an adapter that has a female ethernet, female phone cord and a male ethernet connector.
Is there another way to do it? I just don't fax that often and don't want to purchase a fax line.

If you have a VTech IP phone IP8100-2 you do not have a way to hook up a fax machine or use your computer's modem to fax. This solution is only available for people who have an adapter that support plain old telephones.

Not what I wanted to hear, but it is what I expected.
Thanks for the reply.
